recycled pallet.

I recently took a week off in between jobs for some much-needed R&R but things didn't go according to plan. I actually think I got more "work" done around the house than I have in the past year, including a complete closet cleanout, some spring cleaning and YES, a Pinterest project or two.

The final product!

My 'PIN'spiration (cannot find the source).

In the alley behind my house I found... wait for it... the perfect pallet! No icky-ness and mine for the taking.

I popped it in the trunk of my Prius and was on my way.

Beware: these things are heavy. After getting it in my garage and cleaning it off, I used a hammer to remove the planks running along the middle (notice the white spaces where the pieces were).

Then it was time for a trip to Michael's. On my list:
  • Magnetic tape ($3.99 each, I bought 2)
  • Magnets (not sure on cost; had to return the original ones I bought for something stronger!)
  • Frames ($7.99 each; 5x5 shabby-chic looking, cream white frames)
It's pretty self-explanatory, but I rolled out the magnetic tape on the three center planks (that's where I'm going to hang pictures, save-the-dates, invitations, etc). Then I hammered a small nail to hold each frame up. Simple as that!

Final product without my photos

What do you think? Cheap, trendy & it helps with organization, right? That's what I'll tell myself.
